ice-cream soda

noun a drink consisting of flavoured aerated water to which ice-cream has been added, served in a tall glass. Compare spider.

Contributor's comments: I believe Queenslanders use spider NOT ice-cream soda.

Contributor's comments: We used to get "ice cream sodas" from the Coles supermarket cafeteria in Wynnum in the very late 60s, early 70s. They were normally fruit flavoured, cordial and soda water with a scoop of ice cream. I also had spiders but it was later than this and they were always made with Coke and icecream.

Contributor's comments: It was always an "ice cream soda" in the northern beaches area of Sydney as long ago as the 1950s.
