Attending the NSW Premier’s Spelling Bee 2017

This year over 150,000 students from across New South Wales competed in the Premier’s Spelling Bee 2017, the largest Spelling Bee in the country. As sponsors of the event, Macquarie Dictionary was there to witness the intelligent junior and senior students spell everything from sleuth to thermodynamics to sauerkraut.

From the junior school division, the winner was Lena Zhu from Oatley Public School and the runner-up was Akshath Senthil from Homebush West Public School. In the senior school division the winner was Lucinda Adams from Woollahra Public School and the runner-up was Matilda Stewart from Hastings Public School.

Each winner and runner-up received a free school-wide 12-month subscription to the Macquarie Dictionary and Thesaurus Online, as well as a free Macquarie School Dictionary app for the individual students.

We congratulate the winners and runners-up and all those students who participated in this year’s Spelling Bee.
